WELCOME TO LAGIR

The Isotopic Geochronology Laboratory (LAGIR) is the first isotopic geochronology laboratory established in the State of Rio de Janeiro and the fifth in Brazil. Its mission is to provide analytical support for both internal and external research projects in the fields of Human Health, Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Environment, and Crustal Evolution through rock and mineral dating methodologies and radiogenic isotope geochemistry (Sm-Nd and Sr).

The laboratory includes an ultra-clean, positive-pressure environment dedicated to reagent distillation, dissolution of rock and mineral samples, and chemical separation using cation-exchange chromatography columns. Isotopic analyses by Thermal Ionization Mass Spectrometry (TIMS) are carried out in a separate facility equipped with the state-of-the-art Finnigan TRITON mass spectrometer.
