Facilities
LAGIR is located at the Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ), João Lyra Filho Pavilion, Room 4043, Block F, Maracanã Campus. As illustrated in the layout below, the laboratory comprises two sub-laboratories: a Chemistry Laboratory and a Mass Spectrometry Laboratory, totaling approximately 210 square meters.
The facility was specifically designed and constructed in accordance with state-of-the-art air-conditioning, filtration, and positive-pressure systems suitable for ultra-clean microchemical procedures, which are essential for geochronological and isotopic geology methodologies.

- Chemistry Module – The Chemistry Module contains dedicated areas for: purification of water and acids; dissolution of rock and mineral samples and analytical standards; elemental separation using ion-exchange resin columns under laminar-flow hoods; and weighing procedures using high-precision analytical microbalances.
- Mass Spectrometry Module – The Mass Spectrometry Module houses the mass spectrometer itself, where isotopic ratio measurements are performed, as well as instrumentation for filament assembly and degassing, and sample loading onto filaments.
LAGIR also includes two machine rooms housing the fan-coil systems responsible for air pre-filtration (using blanket and bag-type filters), cooling, and laboratory air renewal, thereby maintaining positive internal pressure relative to the external environment.
